fillings, crowns, and bridges

Fillings

The most common reason for caries is poor oral hygiene. A patient can get caries at any age. If a patient leaves it untreated, it can progress and it will lead to complications such as pulpitis, periodontitis, and even abscess. It’s very crucial that caries is found right in time and treated immediately. It’s harder and more expensive to treat caries at the late stage of the disease. The treatment of caries includes the placing of a filling. Thanks to the new materials used in modern dental medicine, we are able to conclude the treatment during one visit.

  • WHITE FILLINGS (composite fillings) are the most desired fillings by patients. Their color is the closest to the natural color of the teeth. In most cases, they are the right choice to restore tooth damage. However, there are some disadvantages.

  • BLACK FILLINGS  – There is a wrong impression among society that black fillings are not good, even harmful and dangerous. That is not true and even a false accusation. Dentists recommend black fillings when white fillings are useless for the patient. Dentists place them mainly on molars when the use of a white filling can damage a tooth.

Crowns and Bridges

Crowns are necessary in those cases when a tooth is so severely damaged that it can’t be restored with a filling. Crowns could be necessary if there is already a very big filling on the tooth and it is at risk of cracking or breaking.

Dentists place and cement crown over the teeth and they can’t be removed. Crowns restore the form, shape, and color of the tooth, as well as its normal function.

Bridges are necessary when there is one or more than one missing teeth and the free space of the damage is surrounded by stable teeth. The bridges are also placed and cemented over the teeth and they can’t be removed. They have the same function as crowns.
